Ever since I can remember I have loved to sing. One of my earliest memories of my childhood is sitting on the floor of my bedroom in Harare, Zimbabwe, with one of those suitcase type gramophones and listening to “Two little boys had two little toys” on repeat. Then when I was about 14, I persuaded my mum to buy me a guitar and it has given me years and years of pleasure and comfort and I often thank my mum for buying me that first guitar.
In about 2013 I wanted to start writing my own songs and so I set about learning all I could about the art of songwriting. Then I wanted to record those songs so I studied everything I could about home recording. Then I wanted release those songs and that brought me to Unique Music and, in between my “real” job of being a Business Analyst and my other job of being a wife and mother, I have released nine albums and five singles over the last three years.
In early 2016 I took part in my first FAWM (February Album Writing Month) and with the help of five collaborators I wrote and recorded a full album of original songs during the month of February and shortly after, released the this album of FAWM songs called, obviously, “February”.
In June 2016 my good friend Karen Wilmot came to visit me in Johannesburg and said “let’s record an album”. So we sat down and went through the 250 odd songs in my repertoire and selected 20 cover songs that we both liked and already knew how to sing. Over four days we recorded three tracks of Karen singing the lead vocal for each of the 20 songs. Karen then left and went back to a new job in the United Arab Emirates. I spent two months, as time in my day job allowed, adding my vocals and harmonies, mixing the songs and whittling out the dicey ones. "Alice Band 20 years on" was released in October 2016.
The album "A song to wake you in the morning" was written and recorded in the month of February as part of February Album writing Month and was released shortly after.
In May 2017 I teamed up with a wonderful South African guitarist who goes by the title of Lebz Muzo. We recorded our first album "Selections" and performed at the Grahamstown Festival. We are currently working on our second album of purely acoustic music which will be released in June 2018. We are performing for the second time at the National Arts Festival.
All my music is available for purchase or streaming from all major digital platforms including Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Youtube. If you would prefer a physical CD, let me know and I will post one to you.
